North westerly Wilpattu National Park is Sri Lanka’s largest game reserve. Wilpattu comprises a wide variety of habitats such as dry zone forest, thick jungle and rocky beach cliffs yet despite its raw beauty and dense wildlife population – leopards, sloth bears, elephants and crocs are particular highlights – it is usually overlooked by mainstream tourists. During our Wilpattu safaris you may have the reserve all to yourselves, and it will it feel like a genuine wilderness. The name “Wilpattu” is the Tamil term for “place of lakes” and refers to its 40 plus waterholes. These shallow rain-fed lakes are hotspots for wildlife viewing.
